A new wine for us this year as we add to the Beaumont stable. This is a Bordeaux blend led by Cabernet Sauvignon (46%) and Cabernet Franc (31%). Delicious dark berry fruit aromas with an elegant oak influence followed by dark broody black berry fruit and hints of spice on the palate.

Forget about your Pinotage prejudice, we searched high and low to find an elegant Pinotage and we were eventually rewarded with this gem from Sebastian Beaumont in Bot River. The 2013 vintage retains balance and finesse with its red berry, plum and cherry flavours. Fine tannins lend a firm and meaty structure to the mouth-watering fruit supported by a touch of vanilla.

Beaumont wines was the first winery in South Africa to bottle a Mourvèdre - this varietal originated in Spain and traditionally planted in France to enhance classic Shiraz blends. Mourvèdre's dark, thick-skinned berries result in powerful spicy and sometimes gamey aromas in their youth. This unique wine was made from a small parcel of Mourvèdre with a low crop yield of 4 tons/ha. Grapes were harvested at full ripeness, cold soaked, fermented in concrete tanks and allowed a post maceration of 3 weeks, where after it was pressed directly into 100% French oak 400L barrels.

This is Beaumont's flagship red blend. Since 2004 they have been working on a blend with the sole aim of capturing the best of Beaumont single varietal reds in a red blend. To create a wine that reflects and respects its component parts through the harmony of proportions and balance. The name was inspired by their 200 year old water mill and by Da Vinci's drawing of the Vitruvian man - the ultimate balance of proportions.

Another new wine for us from the Beaumont family and one we've had our eye on for some time. This dessert wine is complex and refreshing with baked apple and spice flavours. It has elegance and length with sufficient acidity to keep it fresh and light without ever becoming cloying. Delicious!
