Platter's Guide 2015
Scintillating debut 2012 shows this cellar equally adept with Rhône & Burgundy varieties. Shiraz with 12% mourvèdre, year in barrel, 21% new; fine expression of violets & forest floor fruit characters in deft, elegant composition, with brilliant balance, echoing length of flavour. 4.5 stars

The debut 2012 Granum comes from rocky soils planted with bush vine Mourvedre and Syrah (there is a possibility of Grenache once some good clones become available in South Africa.) It has a well defined, quite sumptuous bouquet with bay leaf, dried herbs, brambly red berries and a slight ferrous scent. The palate is mediumbodied with fine tannins, specks of dark chocolate infusing the red fruits and a touch of piquancy towards the structured finish that is just missing a little persistence at the moment. Still, this forms an impressive debut and it may "fill out" with bottle age.
