The 2013 Abbotsdale Shiraz Cinsault Mourvedre is a blend of 50%, 20% and 30% respectively, aged in barrel for 12 months. It has a sublime menthol, fynbosinfused bouquet that is welldefined and very floral. The palate is mediumbodied with a saline, structured entry, the Mourvedre lending great backbone with impressive focus and delineation on the finish. This evokes summer's days in the Provençal heartland. Excellent. Winemaker Bryan MacRobert is the man behind the Abbotsdale label from vines within the ambit of the titular town, just south of Malmesbury. God knows just how he finds the time when not helping out Eben Sadie or minding his own Tobias label, notwithstanding nipping up to Rioja to spread his talent in Spain. These are very wellpriced wines, crowned by a scintillating Rhône blend. A future star? No question mark needed.
